At the start of this growing season I decided to add a new dimension to growing fruits, vegetables and pretty flowers, with the introduction of hessian coffee sacks.

Some of the art work on these sacks is a sight to behold and often lead the design of the grow bag when I start sewing. With pretty side seams and an upper casing to add a finishing touch, these up-cycled grow bags are not only a brilliant sustainable choice for the garden but also add that quirky je ne sais quoi to any growing area, whether it’s as big as a football pitch or as small as a postage stamp!

Once full with a little compost your choice of plants, flowers or vegetables will receive ample water with any excess filtering through the compost and draining through the natural hessian sack.

At the end of the season, it’s great to think you can just empty the pretty grow bag, let the hessian dry out and fold it away before storing it over the winter….and the cycle begins again next Spring.

A simple idea that is the height of sustainability and functionality whilst adding a touch of style to any outside space….what’s not to love.
